Palestine - Three Early Hebrew Checks of the Anglo-Palestine Company - 1920s - Including a Check of the Vinegrowers’ Cooperative (Carmel Mizrahi) Signed by Ze’ev Gluskin and Segal - Very Rare - A fascinating trio of Hebrew-language checks issued by the Anglo-Palestine Company, the first Jewish bank in the Land of Israel, during the 1920s from its Jaffa branch. These rare examples mark the early phase of Hebrew financial documentation in the country during the British Mandate period. Among them is a remarkable check issued to the Vinegrowers’ Cooperative of Rishon LeZion (Carmel Mizrahi), bearing the signatures of Ze’ev Gluskin, one of the pioneers of the local wine industry and manager of Carmel Mizrahi, along with Segal’s signature inside a central circular stamp. This check is of outstanding historical and economic importance, connecting the early Jewish banking sector with agricultural and industrial development in pre-state Palestine. All three feature original “PAID” handstamps, early Palestine E.E.F. fiscal stamps, and period handwritten annotations. An exceptionally rare and historically significant group, illustrating the financial and industrial roots of the modern Israeli economy.
