Palestine - Rare and Early Check from Safed - 1906 - Barsel, Barschad & Klinger for the Anglo-Palestine Company, Jaffa - An exceptionally rare commercial check issued in Safed in 1906 by the firm Barsel, Barschad & Klinger, made payable to the Anglo-Palestine Company in Jaffa. The document is written in French, as was customary in financial and trade correspondence of the era, and bears original company signatures and stamps. The firm of Barsel, Barschad & Klinger was among the earliest Jewish commercial enterprises operating in Safed during the early 20th century. In subsequent years, it became an official agency of the Anglo-Palestine Company in Safed, eventually developing into a full branch of the bank – making this check a document of major historical and institutional significance. A rare and important artifact, reflecting the spread of organized Jewish banking activity into the Galilee at the dawn of the 20th century.
