This note was issued in 1854 by the Mechanics Bank of Memphis, Tennessee, and features the intricate engraved style characteristic of mid-19th century American currency. Face: Detailed industrial vignette depicting workers, machinery, and manufacturing activity, symbolizing the spirit of progress, industry, and economic expansion in the United States during the period. The note also bears original handwritten signatures, manually written serial numbers, and period security devices. Back: Relatively simple aniline reverse with mirrored design impressions and traces of the front engraving, typical of early American obsolete bank notes.
