Palestine - 500 Mils 1929 - Pick# 6b - PCGS 10 - Prefix A - Very few banknotes known from this year and prefix. In 1917, the British conquered Palestine from the Ottoman Empire, marking the beginning of British rule in the Land of Israel. The Palestine Currency Board banknotes were the first official banknotes issued specifically for Palestine, entering circulation on Monday, November 1, 1927, and serving as legal tender in both Jordan and the Gaza Strip as well. The series included denominations of 500 Mils, 1 Pound, 5 Pounds, 10 Pounds, 50 Pounds, and 100 Pounds. The notes were printed in different colors and featured illustrations of the Tower of David, Dome of the Rock, the White Tower, and Rachel’s Tomb. Obverse: Rachel’s Tomb with the “Palestine Currency Board” inscription in English, Hebrew, and Arabic. Reverse: Tower of David and the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. Watermark: Olive branch.
