Palestine - 1 Pound 1939 - Pick# 7c - PMG 20 - Prefix K - This is considered one of the scarcer notes within the Palestine Pound series. Two different K prefixes are known - low-number and high-number ranges - with this example belonging to the high-number range, of which fewer surviving examples are known. These varieties are especially sought after among collectors of Palestine Prefix banknotes In 1917, the British conquered Palestine from the Ottoman Empire, marking the beginning of British rule in the Land of Israel. The Palestine Currency Board banknotes were the first official banknotes issued specifically for Palestine, entering circulation on Monday, November 1, 1927, and serving as legal tender in both Jordan and the Gaza Strip as well. The series included denominations of 500 Mils, 1 Pound, 5 Pounds, 10 Pounds, 50 Pounds, and 100 Pounds. The notes were printed in different colors and featured illustrations of the Tower of David, Dome of the Rock, the White Tower, and Rachel’s Tomb. Obverse: Illustration of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem alongside the “Palestine Currency Board” inscription in English, Hebrew, and Arabic.
