Palestine - Cafe Werner Token - 10 Mil 1935 - Copper-Nickel, PCGS AU58 - Haffner MT-6 - A ”Cafe Werner Haifa” token from the British Mandate period in Palestine. Issued circa 1935, this token was used by the famous Cafe Werner in Haifa, founded by Zvi Werner, an immigrant from Vienna, Austria. Obverse: ”CAFÉ WERNER HAIFA” within a beaded border. Reverse: Denomination ”10” within a beaded border. Cafe Werner tokens are considered among the most recognized collectible tokens from the British Mandate era. They were used as substitutes for small change, which was scarce in circulation, and also for internal accounting purposes within the café. The token is graded by PCGS as AU58 and pedigreed to the Sofaer Collection.
