Palestine - 5 Piastres 1930 - Palatin Hotel - NGC UNC Details - Haffner CC-5B - Money substitute token issued by the Palatin Hotel, similar to tokens issued by cafés and institutions during the late 19th and early 20th centuries due to shortages of small change in circulation. Obverse: Denomination ”5P” within a beaded border. Reverse: The inscription ”PALATIN HOTEL” surrounding a flower. The Palatin Hotel is a historic building located in Tel Aviv, at the corner of Ahad Ha'am Street and Nachalat Binyamin Street. Upon its opening in 1926, it was considered one of the city's leading, most modern, and luxurious hotels. The hotel included 60 rooms, a concert hall where the Palestine Symphony Orchestra performed, and a billiards and dance club. During the Arab Revolt (1936-1939), the hotel industry in Palestine suffered heavily, and the hotel closed in 1938 before being converted into an office building. During World War II, the building served as a guest house for Allied soldiers and later housed an American Red Cross soldiers' club.
