Great Britain - 1 Crown 1935, Silver Jubilee of King George V - .500 Silver, Weight 28.28 g (Approximately 14.14 g of Pure Silver, Approximately 0.455 Ounces) - A British commemorative coin with a face value of 1 Crown, issued in 1935 to mark the 25th anniversary of the reign of King George V. This is one of the most recognizable British commemorative coins of the 20th century. According to the Royal Mint Museum, the coin marks the beginning of the Royal Mint's modern history of issuing commemorative coins. Its highly stylized equestrian design led to the familiar nickname Rocking Horse Crown. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of King George V, designed by Edgar Bertram MacKennal, accompanied by the inscription: GEORGIVS V. D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX. F. D. IND: IMP: (George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India) The reverse depicts Saint George on horseback, wearing armour and fighting the dragon. The modern, stylized design was created by Percy Metcalfe.
