The dynasty ruled medieval Austria and played a central role in the country's political and territorial development. Obverse: The Austrian federal eagle wearing a mural crown and bearing the Austrian shield on its breast. It holds a sickle and hammer in its talons, with a broken chain surrounding its legs as a symbol of Austria's liberation. The inscription REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH appears around the design, with the denomination 1000 SCHILLING below. Reverse: A medieval-style equestrian seal depicting Frederick II, the last Duke of the House of Babenberg, mounted on horseback and holding a banner and shield. The surrounding inscription reads EINSETZUNG DER BABENBERGER (Appointment of the Babenbergs), with the dates 976-1976 above.
