The collection depicts important individuals, events and symbols associated with the construction of the wall, the Cold War, the opening of the borders and the reunification of Germany. Each coin has a denomination of 3,000 CFA Francs and is struck in .999 fine gold, weighing 1/500 oz - approximately 0.0622g of pure gold - with a diameter of 16 mm. The complete collection contains 0.024 oz of pure gold, approximately 0.746g. According to the accompanying certificates, the stated mintage was limited to 30,000 pieces of each design. The twelve designs included in the collection are: Walter Ulbricht: A portrait of Walter Ulbricht, one of the leading figures of East Germany, during whose leadership the Berlin Wall was constructed. Construction of the Wall: A design relating to the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961, inscribed MAUERBAU. John F. Kennedy: A portrait of United States President John F. Kennedy, associated with his celebrated 1963 speech in West Berlin. Mikhail Gorbachev: A portrait of M. GORBATSCHOW, the Soviet leader whose reforms formed part of the political changes preceding the fall of the wall. Ronald Reagan: A portrait of United States President Ronald Reagan, who delivered his well-known 1987 speech near the Brandenburg Gate. Iron Curtain: A design referring to the political and ideological division between Eastern and Western Europe, inscribed EISERNER VORHANG. “We Are the People”: The slogan WIR SIND DAS VOLK, one of the principal chants used during the 1989 demonstrations in East Germany. Hans-Dietrich Genscher: A portrait of Hans-D. Genscher, the German foreign minister who played an important role in the diplomatic process leading to German reunification. Günter Schabowski: A portrait of Günter Schabowski, whose announcement during a press conference on 9 November 1989 contributed to the immediate opening of the border crossings. Opening of the Border: A design commemorating the opening of the crossings between East and West Berlin, inscribed GRENZÖFFNUNG. Helmut Kohl: A portrait of German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, a central figure in the reunification of Germany. Brandenburg Gate: A depiction of the Brandenburg Gate, one of the principal symbols of both divided and reunified Berlin, inscribed BRANDENBURGER TOR. Obverse: The coat of arms of the Republic of Chad, comprising a shield supported by a lion and a goat, together with the inscription RÉPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD. The denomination 3,000 FRANCS CFA appears below. Reverse: One of twelve portraits, events or symbols connected with the history of the Berlin Wall. The designs bear the inscription 30 JAHRE MAUERFALL (“30 Years Since the Fall of the Wall”), together with the name of the featured person or event. The coins are housed in capsules and rigid display holders and presented in an original case inscribed 30 JAHRE MAUERFALL - 999 FEINGOLD MÜNZKOLLEKTION. The collection is accompanied by certificates of authenticity containing technical specifications and historical information in German. The case, holders and certificates show signs of storage and handling.
