The series comprises 50 ingots, each depicting a monarch or a significant event in the history of the British monarchy. The ingot commemorates Edward the Confessor, King of England from 1042 to 1066, and the rebuilding of the original Westminster Abbey. Edward commissioned a large Romanesque church, consecrated in 1065, which became one of England’s most important religious buildings. Although it was later largely replaced by the present Gothic structure, the abbey remains closely associated with the coronation of English and British monarchs. Obverse: A crowned portrait of King Edward the Confessor appears within an oval frame.
