The series comprises 50 ingots, each depicting a monarch or a significant event in the history of the British monarchy. The ingot commemorates Edward I, King of England from 1272 to 1307, and the development of the parliamentary institution during his reign. In 1295 Edward summoned the assembly later known as the “Model Parliament”, which included members of the clergy, nobles, knights and representatives of the towns. This assembly is regarded as an important landmark in the development of the English Parliament as an institution representing different groups within the kingdom. Obverse: A crowned portrait of King Edward I appears within an oval frame. Beside it is a parliamentary assembly, with clergymen, nobles and other representatives seated before the king and his attendants. Emblems of the English kingdom appear in the background.
