Judaica / Zionism - Eastern Europe, engraved amulet medal, circa early 20th century - A small bronze personal amulet likely originating from Eastern Europe. The obverse features the Hebrew letter ”He”, one of the letters of the Divine Name, traditionally used as a symbol of protection and blessing. The reverse is engraved with the verse ”Veahavta et Adonai Elohecha” (”And you shall love the Lord your God”), the opening of the Shema passage, traditionally regarded in Kabbalistic sources as carrying protective and spiritual significance.
