Biography from The Athenaeum Gallery, Northern Virginia Fine Arts Assoc.(NVFAA): Born in Paris, 1892/02/10, dead in the concentration camp of Dachau (Germany), 1944/12/24. He was the grand son of the famous painter Jean-Fran?ois Millet, son of the architect Charles-Louis-Emile Millet and father of the artist Jany-France Millet. Forger and painter, he teamed up with the copyist and art dealer Paul Cazot and authenticated more than forty oils and two hundred drawings falsely attributed to his grandfather, Jean-Francois Millet, the master of Barbizon. Many of those paintings were subsequently sold to Croal Thomson, director of Barbizon House, a London gallery. Jean-Charles Millet was sentenced to one year in prison for fraud and issuing bad checks by the Criminal Court of Melun. Later, he was sentenced by the Criminal Court of Fontainebleau to six months in prison and five hundred francs fine for apposition of false signature and breach of trust. Imprisoned by the Germans into the camp Royallieu in Compi?gne (Oise), he died later in Dachau where he had been interned. 13”H x 10”W(sight), 20 1/4”H x 17 1/4”W(frame)
