De Laval Cream Separator Flywheel Assembly, No 1.5 - C-20925 Cast iron flywheel and drive assembly from a De Laval cream separator, mounted to a later wooden display base. The piece features a large spoked drive wheel marked “No 1½, ” red painted separator body, hopper reservoir, and hand crank shaft assembly. Originally part of a centrifugal dairy separator system used to separate cream from milk on farms and in dairies, the unit retains its distinctive utilitarian agricultural form and early industrial construction. Produced by The De Laval Separator Co. of Poughkeepsie, New York during the early 20th century. Surface wear, oxidation, paint loss, and scattered scratches present throughout from age and use. Mounted to a wooden display board with later hardware. Hand wheel rotates by hand.
