1940 FIRST ALEPH BETH ISSUE. The 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet provide with the 5 final letters and the ”sin” form of the letter shin, provide the basis for a set of 28 stamps. These are used as the beginning or ending letters of the names of various cities, towns, and settlements. The set was issued in 1x4 booklet panes with selvedge on the right side.
