Menachem Begin State Medal, 1992 Begin was born in Brisk, Lithuania (Poland) on August 16, 1913. In his parents' home, he absorbed the heritage of Israel and Zionism. He joined ”Kfir”, the scout organization of Hashomer Hatzair, and moved to the Beitar movement, named after Yosef Trumpeldor, where he met Ze'ev Jabotinsky, whose name precedes him as the founder of the Hebrew battalions and the organizer of the defense against the Arab rioters in Jerusalem.
