Reproduction Mechanical Boxing Bank in the Style of Shepard Hardware Co - A reproduction mechanical novelty money bank, designed in the style of the late nineteenth-century Boxing Bank originally patented by Shepard Hardware Co. circa 1889. The piece features two opposing boxing figures with articulated, pinned shoulder joints, situated within a square boxing ring. The ring is constructed with four black-painted corner posts supporting white cord ropes. A coin slot is located in the centre of the ring floor in front of the figures. The bank is operated by a cast-iron lever protruding from the right side of the base; when pressed, the lever activates the articulated arms of the boxers to simulate a prize fight. The front of the base features the embossed text Boxing Bank painted in white against a blue band. The underside of the bank has a perforated plate with a circular swivel keyhole coin trap and is secured with flat-head assembly screws.
