A Pair of Mid-to-Late 20th Century Oil Paintings on Board Depicting Liverpool Waterfront and Hong Kong Harbour - A pair of mid-to-late 20th-century oil paintings on board depicting contrasting international waterfront scenes, likely by the same hand. The first painting depicts the Liverpool waterfront at sunset, showing the skyline with the Albert Dock chimney and the dome of the Port of Liverpool Building reflected in the calm waters of the River Mersey. The companion painting depicts Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong at night under a full moon, featuring traditional red-sailed Chinese junks and a smaller sampan in the foreground against a brightly lit skyline of modern skyscrapers. Both works are rendered in a vibrant palette with heavy impasto and textured palette knife work to capture the light reflections on the water. Neither painting shows a visible signature on the front. Both are housed in matching silver-gilt frames with ribbed moulding and decorative concentric rosette corner blocks. The reverse of each frame is sealed with backing board and tape, showing no visible artist labels or inscriptions. Frame size: 72.5 cm x 62.5 cm (each).
