Sefer Lechem Dimah – The Midrash Shmuel’s Commentary on Eichah, Venice 1600. First Edition - Sefer Lechem Dimah, a fundamental commentary on Megillas Eicha, authored by R. Shmuel De Uceda (1545-1604), often known after his classic work ‘Midrash Shmuel’ on Pirkei Avos. R. Shmuel was a 16th century kabbalist in Safed, a disciple of the Arizal and R. Chaim Vital. He established a large yeshiva in Safed for the study of Jewish law and kabbalah. As he writes in his introduction, this is the second work he wrote after Midrash Shmuel. Although his work on Megillas Rus ‘Igeres Shmuel’ appeared in print earlier than the present work, it was actually written later. This first edition is rare and not often seen at auction. In overall good-fair condition. Open tears to corners of several leaves, sometimes with damage to text. 119, [1] pp.
