Sefer Maginei Eretz – Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim – First Edition With The Vilna Gaon’s Commentary, Shklov 1803 - First edition of Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim with Biur HaGra – the Vilna Gaon’s handwritten comments on Shulchan Aruch, Shklov 1803. Brought to print by none other than the famed R. Mendel of Shklov, a foremost disciple of the Gaon toward the end of his life. The Gaon’s sons, R. Avraham and R. Yehuda Leib, also assisted in preparing this volume for print and penned a lengthy introduction, which has become famous for its account of the Gaon’s disciples. The very first work of the Gaon to be printed on Shulchan Aruch, followed by Yoreh De’ah (Shklov 1806), and Even Haezer (Vilna-Horodna 1813). Printed with a particularly important approbation from R. Chaim Volozhiner, who details the Gaon’s approach in Halacha, and Avodas Hashem more generally. It can be viewed perhaps as a synopsis of the Vilna Gaon’s lifelong approach – and by extension the approach of R. Chaim Volozhiner himself – as he writes at length in his Sefer Nefesh Hachaim. . In overall fair-good condition. A dark stain to initial few pp. can be seen at top inner corner. Occasional trace worming, sometimes affecting text. Final [2] pp. containing indices and printer’s colophon are mistakenly bound at the beginning, preceding the title page. Stamps (ex-library) seen on title page and flyleaves. Bound in a modern cloth binding. [2], [4], 316 pp. Page size: 35.5cm
