Set of Chamisha Chumshei Torah with Aderes Eliyahu – The Vilna Gaon’s Commentary, Dubrovno 1804. First Edition - Complete set of the Vilna Gaon’s commentary on Chumash, in two volumes. First edition, brought to print by R. Uri Shraga Feivush of Dubrovno, who was the Vilna Gaon’s son-in-law, and a close confidant. In fact, R. Uri Feivush details at the end of Sefer Vayikra what he merited to hear from the Vilna Gaon himself during his youth. Printed with the approbation of the leading Torah scholars, including that of R. Chaim Volozhiner, the leading disciple of the Gaon. (They are printed on verso of title page of Volume II). In classic style of the Gaon, Aderes Eliyahu focuses mainly on the Peshat – the simple meaning of the verses, although often intertwined with Remez and Sod. Printed with Rashi and Sforno around the Chumash in addition to Aderes Eliyahu. Both volumes were professionally repaired by the late Gaon and Kabbalist R. Serayah Devlitzky of Bnei Brak (1926-2018), some 45 years ago. The volumes were formerly in the Gra Shul of Tel Aviv, and were later repaired by him personally. Volume II bears his inscription and autograph, attesting to his work in repairing the volumes. Aside from his vast Kabbalistic knowledge, R. Devlitzky was known as an authoritative figure with regard to the teachings and customs of the Vilna Gaon, and was very much involved in many of the new printings of the Gaon’s works in the last several decades. Both volumes are complete, including the Haftorah pages which are missing in many copies. Volume I (Bereishis-Shemos): [2], 68; 1-54 pp. In overall good-moderate condition. First 4 pages restored, with portions of text in facsimile. Open tear to pp. 29, affecting text but without loss. Few old repairs to some margin areas, not affecting text. Volume II (Vayikra-Bamidbar-Devarim-Haftorahs): [1], 46; 1-51; 1-54, [2], 3-17 pp. In overall good condition, with minor stains; pp. 41-42 of Sefer Bamidbar are damaged with loss of text and are crudely repaired.
