Made by Mechanical Novelty Works. New Britain, Connecticut - Pat.'d June 1881. From the Al & Nora Hancock Collection. There is a remarkable hidden message that advises and admonishes children who play with the Squirrel and Tree Stump bank. A squirrel who buries his surplus acorns in the roots of a tree stump will not go hungry on a winter's day when acorns are scarce.
