An Alchemy Gothic Mirror of the Soul Speculum Wall Mirror - An Alchemy Gothic Mirror of the Soul decorative wall mirror, also known as the Speculum mirror. The piece is constructed from cold-cast resin and features a hand-painted finish with ivory, metallic silver, green, and wood-effect patinas. The design comprises a three-dimensional sculpture of a partially draped female figure, viewed from the rear as she looks into a circular glass mirror. Her reflection is depicted as a skeleton, representing the Vanitas or memento mori artistic theme. The circular frame is entwined with two large serpents with open maws and is inscribed with Latin text including the words animus, nos . et ., and sumus. The underside of the base bears a moulded rectangular mark with the stylised script The Alchemy Gothic Officially Licensed and is vertically inscribed © 2004 Alchemy Carta Ltd England.
