Japanese Arita Fukagawa Seiji Blue and White Porcelain Mokko-gata Bowl - A Japanese Arita porcelain bowl produced by Fukagawa Seiji. The vessel is of square form with deeply indented, lobed corners, known as the mokko-gata style. The interior is decorated in underglaze blue with a central shaped medallion depicting a heron or egret, often referred to as the shirasagi pattern, amidst scrolling foliage. This central motif is surrounded by radiating panels containing alternating designs of herons in flight and flowering chrysanthemum sprays against a dense blue ground. The inner rim features a continuous geometric diaper-pattern border. The exterior is similarly decorated with stylized avian and foliate motifs. The base bears an underglaze blue mark consisting of a mountain symbol, known as the Yama-ni mark, above the characters for Fukagawa-sei (深川製). This mark is consistent with production from the late Meiji to Taisho period.
