Bidspirit auction | A Trio of Mid-20th Century

A Trio of Mid-20th Century Chinese Style Black Lacquer and Applied Hardstone Wall Panels - A trio of elongated oval wall panels featuring a black lacquer ground. Each panel is decorated with high-relief applied figures of women in traditional Chinese dress, crafted from carved materials including soapstone and resin. The figures are set within a landscape further detailed with gilt-painted stencil-work depicting architectural elements, trees, and scrolling borders. Each panel is fitted with a decorative brass hanger of stylized Chinese fretwork or Shou character design. The reverse of the panels bears faint, handwritten markings in white chalk or wax pencil, including characters resembling 16/11, A 6, and 762, which appear to be temporary warehouse or stock numbers. No formal maker's marks or factory signatures are visible on the bodies or the brass hangers. These items represent a style of Chinese export lacquerware commonly imported into the United Kingdom during the mid-to-late 20th century.
