A 19th Century Boxwood and Brass Four-Fold Three-Legged Timber Rule - A 19th-century trade instrument constructed from boxwood with brass fittings, designed as a four-fold folding rule. The instrument features a central folding brass stay which allows the rule to be secured in an A-frame configuration, a design typically utilised for timber measurement or gauging. One arm is fitted with a flush-mounted brass slide. The rule is graduated in inches with sub-graduations, displaying numerals 1 through 12 on one face of the primary sections. The construction includes brass hinges and protective brass tips at the extremities. No maker's mark is discernible on the boxwood or brass components. Length: 24 inches (fully extended).
