A Trio of 20th-Century Nautical Ship Wheel Aneroid Barometers including Shortland Example - This collection consists of three 20th-century aneroid barometers, each designed in the form of a nautical ship's wheel. The primary instrument is a large multi-dial barometer manufactured by Shortland. The silvered dial is centrally marked with a winged SB logo and the text Shortland, British Made Instrument, Made in England, and Compensated. It features a main barometric scale calibrated in both inches (28 to 31) and millibars (960 to 1040), alongside weather indications including Rain, Change, Fair, Very Dry, and Stormy. The dial incorporates two inset sub-dials: an upper thermometer calibrated in Centigrade (-20 to 50) and a lower hygrometer measuring percentage humidity. The case is constructed from dark-stained hardwood with eight turned wooden spokes and a polished brass bezel. The second item is a medium-sized barometer housed in an oak case with a prominent grain and six integral carved spokes. The light-coloured dial features traditional weather terms in black script and a central brass setting knob. The bezel is finished in a brushed metal. The third item is a miniature barometer set within a dark-toned circular wooden case featuring six decorative brass spokes and a polished brass bezel.
