J. Duquesne Art Nouveau Style Silvered Metal Relief Plaque - This Art Nouveau style vertical rectangular relief plaque is cast in silvered metal, possibly spelter or pewter, and depicts a classically draped female figure looking up towards a winged putto or fairy child perched amongst stylised flowering plants, likely lilies. The composition is executed in the fluid, naturalistic aesthetic characteristic of the Belle Époque. The plaque is mounted onto a light-coloured rectangular backboard. The reverse of the mount features an inset circular metal commemorative medal bearing the circumscription PERFUGIUM REGIBUS and a base inscription transcribed as IAC. II. M. BR. R. CUM REG. CONJ. ET PR. WALLIAE / IN GALL. RECEPTUS / M.D.C.L.XXXIX., commemorating the arrival of King James II in France in 1689. The piece is set within an ornate, deeply moulded gilded frame featuring scrolled acanthus leaves and shell motifs. A signature is present in the lower right of the metal casting reading J. Duquesne.
