A late 19th-century Anglo-Indian carved hardwood stationery box - An Anglo-Indian hand-carved wooden stationery or correspondence box, likely dating from the late 19th century and constructed from a dark-stained hardwood such as teak. The exterior surfaces are elaborately decorated in high relief with scrolling grapevine motifs, featuring clusters of grapes and broad leaves set against a textured, stippled ground. The lid features a central rectangular panel containing a dense foliate composition, enclosed within a triple-layered border of repeating floral and leaf patterns. The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted interior with ten narrow vertical letter dividers and three larger rectangular compartments at the front. The underside of the lid is similarly carved with grapevine decoration surrounding a central circular medallion containing an intertwined monogram of the letters C, G, and H. The box is fitted with metal butt hinges and a central inset lock. Length: 35.5 cm Depth: 23 cm Height: 10 cm.
