Japanese Yamagata kokeshi doll by Yoshio - A traditional Japanese Yamagata kokeshi doll, hand-turned and painted by the artisan Yoshio. The wooden figure is composed of a large, rounded head and a cylindrical body. The head features red radiating lines known as mizuhiki and a hand-painted face with narrow eyes, arched eyebrows, and a small mouth in black and red pigments. The body is decorated with stylized floral motifs, characteristic of the Yamagata style, in red and green pigments, bordered by horizontal red bands at the shoulder and base. The underside of the base bears a hand-painted signature in black ink, with the right column indicating Yamagata and the left column identifying the maker as Yoshio. Height: 26 cm.
