A Pair of Copper British Coins, 1797 and 1854 - A pair of copper British coins comprising a large 1797 George III cartwheel twopence and an 1854 Victoria penny. The twopence features a laureated bust facing right with the incuse legend GEORGIUS III . D : G . REX . on a wide, raised rim. The reverse depicts a seated Britannia facing left with the legend BRITANNIA 1797 similarly incused on the rim. The 1854 penny shows a young head portrait of Queen Victoria facing left, inscribed VICTORIA DEI GRATIA 1854. The reverse displays a seated Britannia facing right with the legend BRITANNIAR: REG: FID: DEF: and the date 1854 repeated at the base. Both examples display dark brown patinas and large format denominations characteristic of late 18th and mid-19th-century British currency. Penny diameter: 34 mm Twopence diameter: 41 mm.
