A Turquoise Carved Shoulao and Tortoise Toggle - A hand-carved Turquoise toggle featuring a bifacial design. One side is modelled as the Chinese God of Longevity, Shoulao, depicted as a seated elder with a characteristically high cranium, a long, flowing beard, and dressed in voluminous robes. The reverse side is carved as a tortoise shell, displaying a pattern of hexagonal scutes. The material is a vibrant blue-green turquoise with traces of dark matrix within the recessed areas of the carving. The base of the tortoise shell includes two bored holes, known as himotoshi, for threading as a pendant or toggle. Height: 3.8 cm Width: 3.2 cm.
