Bidspirit auction | A Silver Plated Engine Turned

A Silver Plated Engine Turned Novelty Pepper Mill - A silver plated novelty pepper mill featuring an engine-turned guilloché patterned cylindrical body and matching domed lid. The surface decoration comprises a repeating geometric grid pattern characteristic of late nineteenth-century metalwork. The lid is surmounted by a central post supporting an S-curved manual crank handle. An oval sliding shutter door is integrated into the upper portion of the cylinder to allow for the introduction of peppercorns. The piece is supported on three small white spherical ball feet. Extensive wear to the silvered surface is evident throughout, particularly on the prominent edges and handle, where the yellow-toned base metal is exposed. No legible marks or maker names are present. Height: 6.8 cm.
