A Hardy Oil Painting of Scent Hounds in a Gilt Frame - A nineteenth-century oil on canvas painting featuring two scent hounds in a stable interior. The composition depicts one tri-coloured dog reclining on a mat while a black and white dog stands at alert behind it. The work is executed with fine, controlled brushwork typical of Victorian sporting art, detailing the anatomical character of the animals. The painting is signed Hardy in red paint at the lower right corner. It is housed in an ornate, heavily moulded gilt composition frame featuring deep scrolling foliate, shell, and acanthus motifs in high relief.
