TOM BLAKE SURFBOARD BY CATALINA, 1940s - A wonderful example of a Tom Blake Catalina hollow surfboard, constructed with fir rails bound with brass screws. The marine ply deck is also bound with brass nails. It appears to be in all original condition with the valuable Tom Blake plug plate and plug bolt still in place, with the Catalina Redondo Beach deck stamp visible. This surfboard measures 10' long x 21'' W. This item comes with a discretionary reserve. In 1932, Blake received a patent for his hollow surfboard design ”and opened the sport up to hundreds of people who weren't able to muscle the heavy plank boards down the beach and into the water”.
