”SLEEPING BEAUTY”, CELLULOID PAINTING - This lot features an original celluloid painting from Sleeping Beauty, housed in its original frame. This painted celluloid measures in the frame, 17'' H x 18'' W. Cel animation is one of the most traditional forms of animation and involves objects - usually characters - being hand-drawn on clear celluloid sheets and placed over painted backgrounds. These are known as animated cels or animation cels. The ”Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale has a rich history, evolving from oral traditions to printed texts and various media adaptations. The earliest version appears in the 1300s as ”Troylus and Zellandine, ” later found in a French romance called Perceforest in 1528. Charles Perrault's 1697 version, ”The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood, ” became widely known and influenced later adaptations, including the Grimm brothers' ”Briar Rose” in 1812. The story has been adapted into ballet, pantomime, and the famous 1959 Disney film, each offering unique interpretations.
