DAVID EDWARDS ROSEWOOD SILVER VANITY BOX, 19TH CENTURY - This lot features an incredible sterling silver vanity box by David Edwards, circa early 19th century. With a monogrammed initial plate on top, the original skeleton key included, a fold down desk with mirror, eleven (11) sterling silver topped glass jars on top, and a large fully fitted removable tool pad with various mother of pearl and sterling silver tools. This box bears the original manufacturer label as shown in the photos, inset brass handles on each side, and in incredibly good condition for its age. This vanity box measures, 6'' H x 13'' W x 9.25'' D. David Edwards of 21 King Street, Bloomsbury Square was Writing Box and Case maker to the Royal family and inventor of the patent military travelling case. He also made tea chests, jewellery boxes, sewing boxes and canteen cases of the highest quality. He and his brother Thomas were also known to have worked from James Street and Orange Street. Edwards was known for using the highest quality timbers, intricate inlaid brass, decorative handles and complex mechanisms for secret compartments. He was bought out by Asprey in 1859 and had two royal warrants from King George IV and Queen Victoria.
