TSUKIOKA KŌGYO, ”ISHIBASHI” - ”Ishibashi”, a Japanese woodblock print by listed artist, Tsukioka Kōgyo. Professionally framed and measures in frame, 16.5'' H x 21'' W. The print depicts a scene from the Noh play Shakkyō. The play tells the story of a priest traveling in China who encounters a boy at a stone bridge, which is the entrance to the realm of the bodhisattva Manjushri. The boy reveals himself to be a messenger of the bodhisattva, and two lions appear and perform a dance to celebrate Buddhist virtue. Tsukioka Kōgyo (1869-1927) was a prominent Japanese artist known for his prints of Noh plays.
