Flamish/dutch artist, Portrait of a court lady. Probably 1st quarter 17th cent. - Oil painting. Unsigned. To the back numbered ”DD 25” in blue chalk. In a Louis-XV-style gilt stucco frame. The frame verso marked as ”66 A” and ”F.t.B.”. Another version of this portrait is preserved in the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, Department of Holland and Flanders as ”Dutch Master of the 16th century, Portrait of a Lady”. The lady is wearing a French hood made of precious lace. Anne Boleyn (1501 or 1507–1536), mother of Elizabeth I (1533–1603), brought this crescent-shaped headdress with her from France. Lace became increasingly important in Elizabeth''s time; it could be the most expensive part of a garment, even more valuable than precious stones. It was also worn as decoration on the collar, as in this painting, neckline and sleeve ends. Kleine Fehlstellen. Malschicht mit ausgeprägtem Mikro-Krakelee, vereinzelte Malschichtaufstellungen. Rahmen mit Lockerungen im Stuck. Maße: 26,5 x 20,5 cm, Ra. 49,5 x 44 cm.
