An old inscription ”niklaes molenaer” to the lower left, apparently transfer of the lost signature. With an auction no. ”610'' in white chalk verso on the right stretcher bar, with the brand stamp ”78'' on the upper stretcher bar on the right, numbered ”3261” in graphite on the left and with a partially lost owner''s stamp ” [...] acad. Ellis Dullaart confirms the authenticity of the painting on the basis of high-resolution images of the high correspondence of the painting in composition, general painterly execution, treatment of the figures and colouring with known works by Molenaer. Bildträger an der unteren Kante um ca. 20 mm gekürzt. Die unteren , Kleisterdoublierung und Aufspannung der 1. Hälfte des 19. Jh. Eckbereiche mit flächigen Retuschen in ca.30–40 mm Höhe. Feine Strichretuschen im Himmel. Malschicht mit feinem Alterskrakelee und partiell leicht berieben, u.a. im Himmel, im Wasser sowie im u.re. Eckbereich. Maße: 59 x 75,2 cm, Ra. 77,5 x 93,5 cm. Klaes (Nicolaes) Molenaer 1626 -29 Haarlem – 1676 ebenda Landschafts- und Genremaler, der von Jacob van Ruisdael beeinflusst wurde. Zu seinen Motiven zählten Bauerngehöfte und das bäuerliche Leben. Auch Winterlandschaften finden sich seinem Œuvre. Bruder der Maler Bartholomeus und Jan Miense Molenaer. Über seine künstlerische Ausbildung ist wenig bekannt. 1651 wurde er Mitglied der Haarlem St. Lukas-Gilde und zahlte bis 1676 jährlich Beiträge.
