Unsigned. Framed in a Berlin moulding. On the reverse of the frame, inscribed by a foreign hand with the artist's name, titled ”Rocks on the Beach” and further inscribed. The painting is included in the supplement to the WVZ Nüdling. Provenance: Private collection in West Germany; estate of Wolfgang Jess; estate of Ferdinand Avenarius, editor of *Der Kunstwart*. Involved in the founding of the German Art Cooperative and on the board of the Hermann Foundation, which supported Saxon artists. Since 1848 honorary member of the Dresden Academy. 1859 appointed professor.
