Friedrich Martersteig - Friedrich Martersteig (attributed), The reformer Ulrich von Hutten is brought by Huldrych Zwingli to Ufenau on Lake Zurich. Probably 3rd quarter of 19th century.. Friedrich Martersteig 1814 Weimar – 1899 same location Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Verso on the stretcher upper right, probably a faded and illegible stamp, below it handwritten inscription ”LWiedl [?]”. Framed in a Berlin strip frame and artist-labeled on the lower frame strip on a brass plate. Possibly a preliminary study for ”Ulrich von Hutten's Last Moments”. Dresden, Academic Art Exhibition 1857. Cf. Boetticher I, 2, p. 983 no. 16. Canvas upper center with small hole, overall with slight deformations in the edge areas. On the left and right edges of the painting, two vertical seams (original, painted canvas additions) in the rebate area. These seams slightly opened and with paint layer imperfections on the left edge. Paint layer partially superficially rubbed, partly slightly showing ground. Dimensions: 30.4 x 38.2 cm, frame 36.7 x 43 cm. Friedrich Martersteig 1814 Weimar – 1899 same location History painter focusing on Reformation themes.
