Framed in an opulently ornamented frame with metal leaf overlay. It is not known exactly when Johann Andreas von Herrenburg visited Jerusalem. But the painter, highly interested in archaeology, was on a scientific expedition to Syria and Asia Minor in 1846 and perhaps also had the opportunity to climb the Mount of Olives during his Egypt-Nubia expedition in 1847. Punctual, vertical paint layer losses middle right. Isolated retouches in the lower half. Frame bumped. Dimensions: 21.3 x 31.4 cm, frame 28.6 x 38.5 cm. Johann Andreas von Herrenburg 1824 Berlin – 1906 same location Studied at the Berlin and Munich Academies, including with E. Biermann. This was followed by several years of travel to Greece and Turkey, to the Maghreb, but also within Southern and Central Europe. 1948 return to Berlin. Acquaintance with M. V. Schwind and Genelli. 1855 moved to Dresden, where he lived until his death, apart from a few study trips. His architectural and landscape paintings draw on the impressions he gathered during his numerous travels to European and Oriental countries.
