Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller 1793 Vienna – 1865 Helmstreitmühle Oil on canvas, marouflaged onto strong cardboard. Verso on an adhesive label inscribed by a foreign hand ”Studienkopf eines Knaben Ferd. G. Waldmüller [...]”. Framed in a gold-colored molding. Paint layer due to lamination with minimal paint losses at the edge and in the lower left corner. More pronounced, even age craquelure. Four punctual retouches, some color-inaccurate. Frame significantly bumped and soiled. Dimensions: 44.2 x 37 cm, frame 52 x 44 cm. Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller 1793 Vienna – 1865 Helmstreitmühle 1807–13 irregular visits to the Academy in Vienna, student of Maurer and Johann Baptist Lampi. 1810 Gundel Prize. Worked as a portrait miniaturist, from 1811 drawing teacher at the house of Count Gyulay in Agram (Zagreb). From 1817 in Vienna, where from 1818 he took lessons in oil painting from Joseph Lange and in landscape painting from J. N. Schödlberger. 1829 custodian at the Academy's painting collection, with the title and rank of professor. 1835 ordinary councilor of the Academy, 1836 he created a catalogue of the painting gallery with Joseph von Führich. Because he preferred studying nature to academic copying, he lost his Academy studio in 1850 and was suspended from his post in 1857.
