Unknown German-Roman painter, View over Lake Nemi to Monte Circeo. Probably 2nd quarter of 19th century. - Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Framed in a black-painted, profiled wooden strip with a brass-colored sightline. Lake Nemi attracted numerous artists traveling to Rome in the 19th century. The Palazzo Sforza-Cesarini is enthroned on the distinctive hill in the middle ground. To the right in the background, the Tyrrhenian Sea can already be seen. Canvas relined and paper-laminated around the edges. Paint layer with age craquelure, lower left with material loss (approx. 0.6 x 2 cm). Brownish small spots in the tree canopy upper right. Numerous older, partly extensive and painterly retouches over the entire picture surface. Probably an old tear lower right (not visible due to relining and retouching). Rebate areas with small lesions. Frame slightly rubbed. Dimensions: 60 x 90 cm, frame 75.1 x 103.5 cm.
