Unknown German-Roman or Nazarene, Hagar at the Spring. Probably 1820s/1830s. - Franz Pforr 1788 Frankfurt a.M. – 1811 Albano Laziale Oil on canvas, on the original stretcher frame. Unsigned. Verso on the stretcher frame with an old attribution in black grease pencil ”Franz Pforr”. Probably depicts Hagar's first discovery by an angel at the spring near Shur (Genesis 16:1–16). Alternatively, the motif could also represent Saint George and the Princess of Silena. Upper edge of the support with reinforcement and further partial relinings at the other stretcher edges. Support with minor deformations and climate edge, and a tear (3 cm) at the lower left. Corners slightly rubbed. Paint layer partially superficially rubbed. Small losses at the edges of the image. Several retouches distributed across the image surface and individually in the margin. Dimensions: 82.5 x 49.3 cm.
