In 1920, due to health reasons, Otto Altenkirch moved his main residence from Dresden to the Saxon small town of Siebenlehn, approximately 35 km away. There, Anna and Otto occupied the upper floor of St. Romanus, a country inn on the edge of the Mulde Valley, which Otto Altenkirch's father-in-law had transferred to the painter in the same year. Although Altenkirch continued his studio on Bautzner Straße, this move to the province marked the beginning of a new creative phase in which the artist explored numerous new motifs. From Romanus, one could reach the Freiberger Mulde and the Steyermühlenteich within two hundred meters; it was only a few kilometers across the fields to Eula. From 1898, studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, from 1900 with Eugen Bracht. Altenkirch moved to the Dresden Art Academy with Bracht in 1902, followed by first exhibitions. 1906 graduation with honors and activity as a freelance artist. Joined the artist group ”Die Elbier” and in 1910 became a member of the Dresden Artists' Association. From 1910, leading court theater painter at the Royal Saxon Court Theaters. 1917 professorship. 1920 moved to Siebenlehn and worked as a freelance painter. Altenkirch's works are represented, among others, in the State Art Collections Dresden.
