Bidspirit auction | Hans Hamza
Hans Hamza - Hans Hamza, Young Lower Austrian Woman with Bird. 1st half 20th century.. Hans Hamza 1879 Vienna? – 1945 there? Oil on wood. Signed ”HANS HAMZA” in red lower right. Framed behind glass in a color-coated decorative frame of the period. The unknown sitter and the interior apparently pleased Hamza so much as a motif that he repeated them independently in various paintings of similar size. The present panel shows the greatest similarity to a somewhat reduced version (Lempertz Cologne, auction 1027, lot 93), in which the birdcage was replaced by a vase and a basket of pine greenery was placed in front of the table. Paint layer in the rebate area all around with isolated, professional retouches. In the area of the white sleeves possibly with subsequent corrections by the artist's hand. Final glazes with varying surface sheen. Dimensions: 18.7 x 14 cm, frame 46 x 42 cm. Hans Hamza 1879 Vienna? – 1945 there? Son of the Bohemian-born painter Johann Hamza, who gained great fame in Vienna in the 1880s with his interior and genre scenes, primarily depicting motifs from the Rococo era. Hans continued his father's preference for the same themes, but focused more on smaller formats. His workshop and he worked extremely economically. They replicated their own designs or elements from them for ever new variations.
