In the edge area of the panel several small holes, probably filled with chalk putty before the painting process, visible upper left and lower right. Paint layer with color-deviating retouches upper left. Punctual retouches in the area of the neck, hand and hair. Larger retouch upper right in the background. Frame with minimal signs of use. Gussy Hippold-Ahnert 1910 Berlin – 2003 Dresden Trained as a stenotypist. 1925 boarding school in Lausanne, where she painted more systematically, alpine pastels. Two-year apprenticeship in the studio of the Dresden portrait and landscape painter Hanns Herzing, with whom she took study trips to Switzerland. 1929 studied at the Dresden Academy in the drawing class of Richard Müller and Hermann Dittrich. From 1931 master student of Otto Dix. The main theme of her work is the human image, which she mostly realized in portraits and nudes. 1931 met Erhard Hippold, married in 1936. 1933 the couple's studio was closed by the Nazis. Gussy traveled to Paris to André Derain with Dix's recommendation, then returned to Dresden. From 1936, the couple worked in Gussy's father's business. Short study trips to the Curonian Spit, the Dolomites, Verona and Lake Garda. 1939 birth of daughter Johanna, in the same year Erhard was called up for war. From 1945 to 1949, the Hippolds worked freelance and continued the paternal business after his death. First income from artistic activity with an exhibition at Galerie Kühl in 1972. Erhard died in the same year.
